The show was launched in April 1975. At that time sign language within the show was limited to Manually Coded German (LGB) and the fundamental means of conveying information was subtitling. First stories in proper German Sign Language (DGS) started to appear in the show in 1986.  Jürgen Stachlewitz was the first Deaf proper DGS presenter from 1990.
